Ghanaian triple jumper Nadia Eke is set to undergo an MRI scan later this week to ascertain the extent of the damage to her hamstring.

Eke injured her hamstring during last weekend’s Adidas Grand Prix in Jamaica, where she also set a new national record in the process.

The 26 year old leapt to a massive 14.33m, surpassing the old record, she set in 2017 by 40cm.

However, she appeared to have sustained a hamstring injury in her final attempt, and had to limp off the track.

Speaking exclusively to Citi Sports, the 2016 African Champion disclosed she may have rushed herself back into action after a previous ankle injury, but now solely focused on a full recovery.

“I injured my hamstring during my third attempt, but I don’t know how severe it is. I will have to get it evaluated during the week,” she said.

“I think it is also a result of dealing with so many other issues with my ankle and not having enough time to bounce back.

”Maybe I came back prematurely, but who knows? I know there is the African Championships and the World Championships this year, but my focus is on getting back to full fitness.”

The 2019 All Africa Games is set to begin on August 19 till August 31.
