A French player has been banned for five years for violent conduct during a fight after a match.

The altercation occurred after a 1-1 draw between Terville and Soetrich in north-east France.

Two players, one from each side got into an argument in the car park, a situation which devolved into an actual fight.

When a teammate of the Terville player stepped in to separate the two, the Soetrich player bit him in his penis.

The unfortunate player was rushed to the hospital where he required 10 stitches.

He was unable to rejoin his team for four days while he recovered from his injury.

The offending player has since been banned for five years while the injured the player, despite his failed attempt to ensure peace, was also suspended for six months for his role in the incident.

Emmanuel Saling, the director of the local Moselle district, explained that it was rare to have sanctions this severe handed out and an expert had been called in to consult on the matter.

“The events took place after the match, in the stadium car park. There was an altercation, an escalation and things got worse.

“It’s quite rare to have sanctions of several years. The case was a bit saucy, but … there must have been some nasty tension.”

SC Terville were hit with a two-point deduction and fined 200 Euros for failing to ensure adequate security and for a slow response to the incident.

The two clubs play each other again on May 17.
