CK Akonnor wants to end Ghana’s AFCON title drought

Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor, has vowed to end Ghana’s AFCON title drought during his time in charge of the national team.

Ghana has not won the AFCON title in 38 years, last doing so in Libya in 1982.

Since then, the 4 time champions have appeared in three other finals in Senegal 1992, Angola 2010 and Equatorial Guinea and Gabon in 2015, losing each one.

With Akonnor, who took charge of the team in January 2020, set to lead the team to the next edition of the tournament in Cameroon 2022, the former Ghana captain says he has set his sights on winning the coveted trophy.

“My aim and mission is to end the long trophy drought of the Black Stars and win the AFCON tournament for Ghana”, he said in an interview with Kessben FM.

Winning the AFCON won’t come easy at all and I therefore urge all Ghanaians to come on board and offer their endless support to the Black Stars in our quest to win the coveted AFCON trophy again”.

Ghana has nine points from four matches in the AFCON Qualifiers and would secure a place in the finals if they avoid defeat in their last two games against South Africa and Sao Tome & Principe.
