UEFA Europa League: Ghanaian duo powers Qarabag, Freiburg to Group G summit

Ghanaian players, Daniel Kofi Kyereh and Kwabena Owusu, were in fine form for Freiburg and Qarabag FK respectively in the Europa League.

The latest round of games concludes the first phase of the preliminary stage and the pair’s contributions have aided their teams to the brink of qualification to the next stage.

Freiburg leads the standings in Group G with nine points from winning all three games and Azerbaijan side Qarabag ranks second with six points.

The top two ranked teams at the conclusion of the preliminary stage progress to the next stage of Europe’s second tier competition.

German side Freiburg beat French side FC Nantes 2-0 with Kyereh scoring in the 48th minute before exiting in the 82nd minute. In the previous riund of matces, Kyereh provided an assist in Freiburg’s 3-0 win over Olympiacos.

Striker, Kwabena Owus,  scored in Qarabag’s 3-0 win in Greece with his goal coming in the 68th minute off an assist from Kady Malinowski.

Owusu has two goals and an assist to his name in the Europa League this season.
