Head coach of Ghana’s men’s football team, the Black Stars, Chris Hughton, says adapting to various situations, including injuries, is the biggest part of football management.
He said this in response to the absence of three key players in the lead up to the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18.
Hughton supervised the Black Stars’ second training session held at the Accra Sports Stadium in preparation for the game. A win guarantees Ghana qualification to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Ghana heads into the matchup against Madagascar without the services of Alexander Djiku, Gideon Mensah and Inaki Williams due to various injuries.
“The biggest part of management is having to be adaptable. This will not be the first camp we’ve had players that we expected to be here that couldn’t be here for whatever reason injury mostly so this is always part and parcel of it and this is why we have the squad that we have.”
The likes of Hafiz Konkoni and Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer have been handed late call-ups as replacements.
Ghana is expected to fly out to Madagascar on Thursday.
