Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori has issued an apology to Ghanaians over the Black Stars woeful performance at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Orlando Pirates stopper issued the apology on his X (formerly Twitter) page just as teammates Osman Bukari, Mohammed Kudus and Alexander Djiku had done prior. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Ghana got booted out of this year’s AFCON at the group stage after failing to win a game in three outings in the competition.

The Black Stars lost 1-2 to Cape Verde and drew 2-2 with Egypt and Mozambique respectively in Group B to crash out of the tournament.

This marked the second AFCON edition in a row that had Ghana fail to progress to the round of 16 stage and the latest AFCON exit sparked heavy criticism to the Black Stars and Ofori apologized for the disappointment.

“As a collective, we fell short. We promise to work harder, address our mistakes, and strive for a better outcome in the future. Your understanding means the world to us” portions of his statement read.

Ofori

Ofori has come under intense scrutiny over the part he played as Ghana threw away a two goal lead to draw with Mozambique.
