The latest chapter in the seemingly never ending football rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria has been recorded following Nigeria striker Victor Boniface’s “unique” goal celebration.

Bayer Leverkusen beat West Ham United 2-0 in the first of a two legged quarterfinal tie in the UEFA Europa League with Boniface returning from injury to score in the 91st minute after coming off the bench in the 76th minute.

To celebrate his first goal on his return from an abductor injury that forced him to miss the 2023 AFCON for Nigeria, the 23 year old run and perched on the advertizing board mimicking Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus famous goal celebration.

Kudus played 87 minutes in the loss and was replaced by Ben Johnson. His performance was largely credited by West Ham manager David Moyes who also pointed to his missed chance in the first half.

“I think Mo [Kudus] had a great chance early on and I think [the front players] all did a really good job, both defensively and trying to break when we could” he said to West Ham media.

Kudus first hit the famous “Landlord Pose” goal celebration after bagging a brace in West Ham’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League in December 2023.

Celebrating like Kudus after scoring against his team was clearly a shot Boniface took at the Ghanaian midfielder.
