Patrick Kluivert, the renowned former Dutch forward, has been appointed as the new head coach of Indonesia’s men’s national football team.

The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) announced his two-year contract, spanning from 2025 to 2027, with an option for extension.

Kluivert, 48, enjoyed a distinguished playing career with top European clubs, including Ajax, AC Milan, and Barcelona.

He scored 40 goals in 79 appearances for the Netherlands, making him one of the nation’s top scorers.

His club achievements include winning the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in the 1994-95 season, securing the La Liga title with Barcelona in 1998-99, and being the top scorer at UEFA Euro 2000.

Transitioning into coaching, Kluivert has held various roles, such as assistant manager for the Netherlands national team and head coach of Curaçao.

He also served as academy director at Barcelona and had a brief managerial stint with Turkish club Adana Demirspor in 2023.

Indonesia, currently ranked 127th in the FIFA rankings, aims to qualify for the 2026 World Cup under Kluivert’s leadership.

The team is third in their World Cup qualifying group, trailing Australia by one point. Kluivert’s tenure will commence with a crucial match against Australia on March 20.
