The Ghana Football Association has appointed veteran German manager Winfried Schafer as technical advisor of Ghana’s Black Stars in what appears to be a shakeup of the teams technical structure.
The 2002 AFCON winner with Cameroon will also serve as the Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association.
His appointment is one of many aimed at improving results following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the AFCON in Morocco.
It will come as a big relief perhaps to head coach Otto Addo who has been under immense pressure after supervising a winless qualifying campaign.
Schafer brings with him decent experience having worked with Cameroon, Jamaica and Thailand as well as a number of clubs in Germany and the Gulf.
The GFA also announced the appointment of Desmond Ofei as an assistant head coach to Otto Addo.
The team will also now have a Psychologist and a Chief Video Analyst following the decision to hire Belgian’s Kris Perguy and Gregory De Grauwe respectively.
Ghana will resume the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign in March with games against Chad and Madagascar between the 17th – 25th.
