“Everybody has seen us now, so we’ll work harder” – Eric Chelle after Super Eagles’ win over Ghana

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, says the team must now double their efforts following their 2-1 win over the Black Stars of Ghana in the Unity Cup held at the GTECH Community Stadium in London.

The match was part of the Unity Cup, a four-nation tournament featuring Ghana, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. The tournament had already kicked off with Jamaica edging past Trinidad and Tobago in a thrilling 3-2 encounter.

According to Chelle, the victory has drawn attention to the team’s style of play, and opponents will now be better prepared to face them.

I think everybody can see our identity. I’m a coach’s team. I changed this team in one week; just seven days. So now we need to work, we need to improve

He expressed particular pride in the players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), who held their own in a high-pressure match.

I’m so proud of my players, especially those from the National League. It’s not easy for them; physically and mentally but they showed character and quality.

Looking ahead, Chelle emphasized the need to build on the momentum from the win over Ghana as the Super Eagles prepare to face Jamaica in their next fixture.

With Nigeria currently sitting fifth in their 2026 World Cup qualifying group after a difficult start, he acknowledged that there is still a long road ahead and every game now carries added significance
