England manager Thomas Tuchel says he is happy that his team has taken the next step under his direction in the wake of the Three Lions’ latest win under the German tactician.
England beat Wales 3-0 in an international friendly game that was played on Thursday, October 9 with all three England goals scored in the first half in a blistering start for the host.
Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers scored in the third minute before turning provider for teammate Ollie Watkins who scored England’s second in the ninth minute.
Arsenal captain Bukayo Saka rounded up the scoring in 20th minute with Villa’s Ezri Konsa setting him up for the goal. Both teams conceded chances in the second half but failed to get on the score sheet.
Speaking after the game to the BBC, Thomas Tuchel talked about the result being the next step in the right direction for his team.

“The spirit, the mindset is right, so they love to play this kind of football. It is a brave approach, and it takes a lot of effort, but they are happy to do that.”

“We are nearly playing like a club team – very flexible, but staying true to our structure. Everyone buys into their role and is ready to do invisible work and help each other. I am very happy with the next step” he said.

England take on Latvia in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, October 14 at 18:45 GMT.
