Algeria wrapped up their Africa Cup of Nations group-stage campaign in commanding fashion with a 3-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea, underlining their superiority with a dominant first-half display.

The Desert Foxes controlled proceedings from the opening whistle and broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Zinedine Belaïd rose highest to power home a header from a well-delivered corner.

Algeria doubled their advantage just five minutes later through Fares Chaïbi, who produced a moment of individual brilliance, driving past defenders before rifling a precise finish into the net.

The pressure continued to mount on Equatorial Guinea, and Algeria made it 3-0 before halftime when Ibrahim Maza climbed above his marker to nod home, leaving the Nzalang Nacional overwhelmed at the break.

Equatorial Guinea showed renewed intent after the restart and pulled one back early in the second half through veteran forward Emilio Nsue, who finished calmly to give his side a glimmer of hope. However, Algeria managed the game expertly thereafter, slowing the tempo and keeping possession to frustrate any comeback attempt.

Despite Equatorial Guinea’s increased physical commitment and late yellow cards, Algeria remained composed and saw out the contest comfortably, sealing a deserved 3-1 win.

The result confirms Algeria’s strong momentum heading into the knockout phase, while Equatorial Guinea exit the tournament without a victory.
