Tottenham Hotspur were denied a first Premier League win of 2026 after Brighton & Hove Albion fought back to secure a 2-2 draw in their clash on Saturday, April 18. The result keeps Spurs stuck in the relegation zone after a poor Premier League season.

Tottenham started well and took the lead in the 39th minute through Pedro Porro, finishing a move that lifted the home crowd. Brighton responded in first-half stoppage time, with Kaoru Mitoma scoring in the 45+3 minute to make it 1-1 going into the break.

Spurs thought they had finally secured a much needed win when Xavi Simons struck in the 77th minute to restore their advantage and send the stadium into celebration.

But Brighton refused to fold. Georginio Rutter levelled late on to make it 2-2, ensuring the visitors left with a point after a resilient second-half display.

Tottenham had 42 per cent possession but were more direct in attack, registering six shots on target compared to Brighton’s three, and winning seven corner kicks. Brighton, who had 58 per cent possession, were more efficient in key moments and produced four saves from the Spurs goalkeeper.

Both sides finished with 14 fouls each, while Tottenham received three yellow cards compared to Brighton’s one.

The draw extends Tottenham’s difficult season, with the club still languishing in the relegation zone after a series of underwhelming performances.

Roberto De Zerbi continues to struggle to fully turn the team’s performances around, with this result marking another setback in what has been a turbulent period, and his second loss since taking over in this current phase.
