Charlotte Hornets General Manager Jeff Peterson has stated that the shock decision to trade LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves achieved multiple goals.
He said this at a press briefing in the wake of the stunning trade of the team’s hitherto franchise player to the Western Conference’s Timberwolves.
Ball headlined a multiple team, multiple player trade that had Naz Reid moved from Minnesota to Charlotte with multiple draft picks.
The timing of Ball’s trade was surprising after the guard excelled in the Hornet’ 2025-2026 season that had Charlotte narrowly miss out on making the playoffs but Peterson indicated that the trade involving Ball was necessary.

“The goal is to get to the playoffs and stay there for a long time and eventually contend to compete for championships. Getting Naz Reid when you can get a player of his caliber.”

“The draft capital and the flexibility just felt like it was something that was able to achieve multiple goals in one transaction” he said.
