Black Satellites exit WAFU B Championship after Togo draw, turn focus to 2027 U-20 AFCON

Ghana’s Black Satellites bowed out of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after a goalless draw with Togo in their final Group B match at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Maxwell Konadu’s side dominated long spells of the contest and created the better chances but failed to find a breakthrough. Ghana also had a goal ruled out, leaving them to settle for a point.

The result saw the Black Satellites finish third in Group B with two points from three matches after defeats to Nigeria, draws against Burkina Faso and Togo, ending their hopes of reaching the knockout stage.

Despite the early exit, the tournament offered valuable experience for the young Ghanaian side against some of West Africa’s strongest youth teams. It also gave Maxwell Konadu and his technical team an opportunity to evaluate the squad ahead of future assignments.

Ghana have already secured qualification for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as hosts, making the WAFU B Championship an important part of the team’s preparations for the continental tournament.

CAF is yet to announce the dates and venues for the 2027 U-20 AFCON. Meanwhile, the National Sports Authority is upgrading facilities across the country to meet the standards required to host the competition.
