Ghana has been placed in Pot 3 ahead of the preliminary-phase draw for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Tournament.

The draw will take place at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 14:00 local time, with the event also set to unveil the first version of the match schedule for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana will be joined in Pot 3 by Ecuador, while Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan have been placed in Pot 1, with South Africa and Papua New Guinea making up Pot 2.

The six teams were seeded according to the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking as of June 16, 2026.

The preliminary phase will see the six nations divided into three groups of two teams each, with teams from the same confederation prevented from being drawn against one another.

Each team will play three matches, with the top two teams overall advancing to the final phase of the play-off tournament.

Ghana, as one of the six teams competing in the preliminary phase, will be seeking to progress to the final stage and move closer to securing one of the final three places at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The preliminary phase is scheduled for the international window between November 24 and December 5, 2026.

The two teams that advance from the preliminary phase will join four nations that qualify directly for the final phase ;  two from Concacaf, Venezuela from CONMEBOL and one from UEFA.

The final phase will be played between February 23 and March 6, 2027, with single-match ties determining the final three qualifiers for the tournament.

The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be hosted by Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027, across eight host cities. It will be the first edition of the women’s World Cup to be staged in South America.
