Nations FC exit CAF Confederation Cup after FC Diarra draw

Nations FC have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after a 1-1 draw with FC Diarra in the second leg of their preliminary-round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 13.

The Ghana FA Cup holders needed to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Bamako on September 5 to keep their continental campaign alive.

Nations FC dominated large spells of the return leg and created several clear scoring opportunities, but FC Diarra goalkeeper Yakouba Diallo produced an outstanding performance to keep the visitors in the tie.

The home side eventually found the breakthrough in the 80th minute through Ouedraogo Fatahou, but the goal was not enough to change the outcome.

The 1-1 draw meant FC Diarra advanced 2-1 on aggregate, ending Nations FC’s first-ever campaign in continental competition.

Ghana will now have no representative in the group stage of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.

Nations FC will turn their attention to domestic football after their relegation from the Ghana Premier League last season, with the club set to compete in the Division One League.
