Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko both secured victories in the second week of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, with the two giants strengthening their positions after impressive performances on Sunday.
Hearts maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Bibiani GoldStars at Dun’s Park, while Kotoko defeated Heart of Lions 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to record their first league win of the season.
Hearts come from behind to beat GoldStars
Hearts were forced to recover from an early setback after GoldStars took the lead in the 10th minute through experienced striker Kwame Opoku.
The home side started strongly and looked capable of building on their impressive record at Dun’s Park, but Hearts gradually settled and began creating opportunities.
The Phobians eventually levelled after the break when Yaw Baafi finished a superb move.
Kwaku Boateng Henry provided an excellent pass for Baafi, who showed good control before calmly finishing beyond the GoldStars goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
Hearts completed the turnaround just five minutes later.

Baafi turned provider, setting up Boateng Henry, who produced a superb strike to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.
GoldStars pushed for an equaliser and were handed a major opportunity late in the game when they were awarded a penalty.
However, Benjamin Asare produced a crucial save from the spot to preserve Hearts’ lead and secure another three points for the Phobians.
The victory keeps Hearts at the top of the league table with six points from two matches.
They have scored six goals while conceding just one, underlining their strong start under coach Kapor.
GoldStars, meanwhile, remain without a point after losing their opening two matches.
Kotoko make Baba Yara statement
In Kumasi, Asante Kotoko began their attempt to make Baba Yara Sports Stadium a fortress with a 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions.
The result gave Eric Tinkler his first league win as Kotoko coach after the Porcupine Warriors were held to a 2-2 draw by newly promoted Debibi United on the opening weekend.
Kotoko took the lead in the 27th minute through Emmanuel Mamah.
Patrick Asiedu’s low cross found Mamah, who got the decisive touch to put the home side ahead.
Kotoko doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute when Mamah turned provider, cutting the ball back for Isaac Opoku Agyemang to score from close range.

Heart of Lions reduced the deficit late in the match after Francis Odoom converted a penalty.
Kotoko were then reduced to 10 men when Hamaid Fuseini received a straight red card, but the Porcupine Warriors held on to claim all three points.
The victory gives Kotoko four points from their opening two matches and ends Heart of Lions’ six-game unbeaten run against the Porcupine Warriors, during which they had recorded four wins and two draws.
The results leave both of Ghana’s traditional giants with encouraging starts to the new campaign.
Hearts will host Bechem United next, while Kotoko travel to face Samartex.
Heart of Lions will look to respond when they welcome Swedru All Blacks, while GoldStars travel to face Dreams FC.
