After a long wait, Kawhi Leonard has officially been traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Toronto Raptors.
Leonard moved to Toronto in a trade package that was headlined by Brandon Ingram and multiple draft picks moved to the Clippers.
35-year-old small forward Leonard won his second NBA title in 2019 with the Raptors after he got traded from the San Antonio Spurs.
The trade was made official after it was initially delayed while the National Basketball Association (NBA) conducted an investigation into salary cap violations by the Clippers. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
However, in the wake of the NBA concluding its investigation and handing out significant punishments to the Clippers, including Leonard, the trade was given the green light.
The Clippers were fined $30 million, while prominent executives including owner Steve Ballmer were suspended from engaging in team activities for a full season.
Kawhi was fined $700,000 for his involvement in the salary cap violations; in 65 games last season, Leonard averaged 27.9 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Clippers.
