Accra Hearts of Oak Interim Management Committee Chairman Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has backed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to remain in his role despite growing calls for his dismissal.
Ghana have endured a poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4-2 to The Gambia to sit bottom of Group C without a point.
The results come after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, with the Black Stars yet to win an AFCON qualifier since September 2023.
Despite the pressure on Queiroz, Nyaho-Tamakloe, a former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman, believes the Portuguese coach should be given more time. Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Nyaho-Tamakloe said,
“With the present coach, I will say he should be just left alone. Absolutely, he should remain. What we saw yesterday [against Gambia] was not his fault; he is a good stop gap coach and…he showed it when he took us to the World Cup such a coach, you don’t throw him away.”
“If we did that, looking for another coach will not be easy; another coach who can bring these boys up will not be easy, I can assure you. Nobody should sack him or nobody should put pressure on him.”
