Former AFCON winner and Black Stars player Mohammed Polo has rejected calls for Ghana to withdraw from the 2027 AFCON qualifiers following the team’s back-to-back defeats.
The Black Stars have lost to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving them without a point from their opening two Group C games and with a minus-four goal difference.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Polo said Ghana must instead go back to the drawing board and find solutions ahead of their next qualifiers against Somalia in November.
“I don’t think it’s the right thing to do that. No, that is not the right thing. I mean, you’ve been beating some people before. They went back, you know, to the drawing board and find solutions. So, if they are now coming to beat you, you should go back to the drawing board and find solutions.
“And the solution is within us. We have to find the solution within us. The quality of our players today is different from those of two years ago. It’s different.
“So, we need a technical person who can help them and add some value to what they have. But withdrawing from the competition is senseless. It doesn’t make sense.”
Ghana will be hoping to revive their qualifying campaign when they face Somalia in November.
