The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear the Senegalese Football Federation’s appeal against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) today, Thursday, October 8, over the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

The hearing in Lausanne, Switzerland, will be held behind closed doors, and CAS confirmed it will not issue a ruling today.

The case stems from CAF’s decision to award the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco after ruling that Senegal had forfeited the final.

Senegal initially won the match 1-0 after Pape Gueye scored in extra time. However, the final was thrown into controversy late in regulation time when the referee awarded Morocco a penalty.

Senegal’s players left the pitch in protest before returning to complete the match. CAF later ruled that Senegal had forfeited the game and recorded a 3-0 victory for Morocco.

The FSF subsequently appealed to CAS, challenging CAF’s decision and seeking recognition as the legitimate winners of the tournament.

The case will be heard by a three-member panel chaired by French arbitrator Professor Gérald Simon. He will be joined by Professor Luigi Fumagalli of Italy and Professor Dr Ulrich Haas of Germany. The proceedings will be conducted in French.

CAS, in a statement on September 30, said it cannot indicate when the final decision will be issued, but has confirmed that no ruling will be delivered on the day of the hearing.

The outcome will determine whether Morocco retains the 2025 AFCON title or Senegal’s appeal succeeds and the tournament result is overturned.
