Ghana’s table tennis player Joanita Borteye begins her women’s singles campaign at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, on Sunday, November 1, with two preliminary-stage matches against India’s Syndrela Das and Uganda’s Nakawala Jemimah.
The 14-year-old will be looking to build on an impressive year that has established her as one of Ghana’s promising young table tennis players.
Borteye, who is deputy captain of Ghana’s 13-member team at the Games, heads into the competition with experience from the 2026 ITTF African Championships in Tangier, Morocco.
She won all three of her group matches, beating Rwanda’s Chantal Hirwa 3–0, Tunisia’s Ela Saidi 3–0 and Morocco’s Nour Slamti 3–1. She then defeated Madagascar’s Edena Prevot 4–1 in the Round of 32 before exiting in the Round of 16.
Borteye also claimed the Under-15 mixed doubles title at the 2026 ITTF-Africa Youth Championships in Accra, partnering Israel Aklie to secure Ghana’s first gold medal at a major African table tennis championship since 1987.
