The  first edition of the Bukom Boxing Showdown dubbed ”Yaa Bi Onye” took place at the Bukom Bixing Arena on Saturday.

The event, put together by the Ideal Boxing Alliance (TIBA), was to help promote and highlight the talents of young amateur boxers in Accra and to offer certain professionals the chance to boost their reputations as they chase major breaks.

The amateurs, ranging from 14 to 17 years, were the first get into the ring and the initial bout was won by Samuel Takyi of the Discipline Gym. He beat John Commey by two rounds to one in their three-round flyweight bout.

The length of bout was the same for all the amateurs who fought on the night.

In the light flyweight bout, Abraham Mensah (Seconds Out Gym) went past Michael Nelson by 2 rounds to 1.

The 3 bantamweight bouts saw Alfred Kotey, Alfred Lamptey and Mohammed Aryeetey (Akotoku Academy) emerging as winners but the talking point was Kotey’s bout with Holy Dogbetor.

Kotey scored a knockdown in the first round but he needed to fight the rest of the way as Dogbetor recovered to land very good blows in the other rounds.

Other winners in the amateur bouts were Daniel Selasi Gorsh, Isaac Aryeetey and John Laryea.

In the professional bouts, Sheriff Mohammed (of The Gym), on his debut, put up the most dominant and explosive performance as he handed Albert Commey (from the Akotoku Academy) a TKO in the second round in their super bantamweight contest. They were slated to go for six rounds.

De Oak Gym’s Daniel Quartey won via a unanimous decision (38-37, 39-37, 38-37) over Alhassan Yakubu (from the Sea View Gym) in a super featherweight clash while Justice Addy (Akotoku Academy) beat Richard Dogbegah (Wisdom Gym) via a TKO in a welterweight clash.

The final bout was won by Delali Miledzi (Stadium Gym) after he defeated Richard Ashong (Akotoku Gym) in a supper middleweight contest.
