President of the Confederation of African Football, Ahmad Ahmad, has been conferred an honorary doctorate degree by Ghanaian University, University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in a short ceremony on the campus of the school in Accra, Ghana.

According to the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Abednego Amartey, the honor was in recognition of Ahmad’s “positive impact you have made in the football arena both in Ghana and internationally.”

The ceremony was well attended, with many dignitaries present including President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, who was guest of honour while CAF vice presidents Kwesi Nyantakyi and Constant Omari were also there to support.

47 African FA heads were also present as well as Members of the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Committee and Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah and his two deputies.

Since taking the reigns at Caf a year ago, Ahmad has supervised major reforms, chief among them, the extension of the Africa Cup of Nations’ participating teams from 16 to 32 and shifting the competition’s calendar from January to June.

Ahmad becomes the first major international sports personality to receive the award from the highly-rated  Ghanaian university.
