Desailly tips Egypt and Morocco for Russia 2018 success

Retired French footballer Marcel Desailly believes Egypt and Morocco represent Africa’s most realistic shot at success at the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

Egypt qualified to the global showpiece after a 27 year wait, while Morocco went through the entire qualifying campaign unbeaten and without conceding a single goal.

The Pharoah’s of Egypt will have to brave the home fans of Russia as well as Saudi Arabia and Uruguay to be able to emerge from Group A.

Morocco’s task in Group B is a bit more trickier as they face European Champions Portugal,Iran and former World Cup winners Spain.

The Ghanaian born French International believes the two nations have proven that they are worth the support of the continent.

The power remains with the North Africans this time.

Egypt is a very good side that combines collective capacity with an individual player that can make a difference.

It has now been 84 years since an African country reached the semi-final so it is a real challenge.

We hope that they can make it.

Herve Renard is tactically sound and he knows how to organise a team so lets see what happens with Morocco,” he told Ghanaweb in an interview.
