GC 2018 Day 7: Hockey team out after 3rd straight defeat

Day 7 of the on-going Commonwealth Games in Australia produced largely mixed results for team Ghana as the Female Hockey team exited the competition with their 3rd straight defeat in the competition.

BADMINTON

Ghana’s Grace Atipaka and Gifty Mensah lost 2-0 to Soniia Cheah and Jemie Shevon Lai in the women’s doubles round of 32.

In the mixed doubles round of 32, Emmanuel Donkor and Stella Amasah beat Benjamin Li and Jessica Li of the Isle of Man.

Earlier, Donkor had teamed up with Sam Daniels in the men’s doubles round of 32 to defeat South Africa’s Cameron Coetzer and Prakash Vijayanath 2-1.

TABLE TENNIS

In the men’s doubles round of 32, Bernard Sam and Emmanuel Asante were 3-1 winners over Lulu Ham and Shing Yoshua of Vanuatu.

But Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey fell by 3 games to zero to England’s Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford.

Bernard Sam and Celia Baah-Danso lost 3-0 to Yan Xin and Lay Jian Fang of Australia in the mixed doubles round of 64.

Derek Abrefa and Cynthia Kwabi gave Ghana something to cheer by defeating Mauritius’ Brian Chan Yook Fo and Ruqayyah Sino 3-1 in the mixed doubles round of 64 but fell 3-0 to Canada’s Alicia Cote and Marko Medjugorac in the round of 32 .

 

HOCKEY

Ghana’s female team got its first goal of the competition through Cecilia Amoako but it did not stop them from losing 5-1 to Canada in their fourth Pool B match. The team conceded 27 goals in their pool matches.

ATHLETICS

In the women’s 200m semi finals, Janet Amponsah fail to progress to the final, finishing 5th with a time of 23.67sec.

Joseph Amoah finished 6th with a time of 20.99sec and Martin Owusu-Antwi failed to finish his semi final race after pulling out injured around the bend.
