President Akufo-Addo has congratulated Ghana’s Isaac Dogboe on his recent boxing victory against American, Jessie Magdaleno in the United States of America.

Dogboe, 23, who is now the country’s youngest world boxing champion, claimed an impressive victory over the 26-year-old former world title holder, for the WBO Junior Featherweight Champion on Saturday.

The victory has generated a lot of attention and applause from boxing enthusiasts including President Akufo-Addo who took to social media to praise the youngster.

President Akufo-Addo in a Facebook post on Sunday said he was confident that following the boxer’s recent feat, he is destined for greatness.

“Congratulations to Isaac Dogboe on his victory over Jessie Magdaleno, and, in so doing, becoming WBO Junior Featherweight Champion, and Ghana’s youngest-ever boxing world champion. We are proud of him, and I am confident that he is destined for greatness!!,” the President said.

With an 11th round TKO of Jessie Magdaleno, 25-1, 18 KOs, Dogboe ended Ghana’s 8-year title belt drought.

Although he was the first to go down, in round 1, Dogboe rose and fought back well, getting Magdaleno on the floor twice; first in Round 5 and then in Round 11.

After the second knockdown in Round 11, referee Benjy Esteves Jr stopped the fight without a count.

Dogboe was ahead on all three official scorecards at the time of the stoppage: 97-91, 96-91 and 95-93.

Dogboe landed 172 of 530 punches (33 percent), and Magdaleno landed 104 of 383 (27 percent).
