I’ve never betrayed Nyantakyi- George Afriyie

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has refuted claims that he betrayed GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Afriyie was last week ousted as GFA Vice after an Executive Committee meeting, bringing an end to his three year stint as deputy.

The relationship between Afriyie and his former boss, Nyantakyi, has been rocky over the past few years, but in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM, he insisted that he would be the last person to stab the GFA boss in the back.

“I have never betrayed Nyantakyi. I have always been truthful to him. If that’s what is termed as betrayal then I don’t know,” he said.

“I have always supported him, even in the most difficult times, so how could I betray him.”

He further opened up about how his vote ended up electing Nyantakyi unto the FIFA Executive council in 2016.

“Nyantakyi got elected by one single vote. He made it unto the FIFA Council by just one vote. I voted for him. I defied his orders and voted for him, because I believed in him. How could I possibly betray him?”

Afriyie was the 4th Vice President Nyantakyi has worked with in his 13-year reign as GFA boss.
