Confederation of African Football President, Ahmad, has told his vice president and Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi to seek re-election in the 2019 GFA presidential elections.
Nyantakyi has publicly said he will not be seeking a 4th term in office in 2019 but a decision by his vice, George Afriyie, who was fired on Tuesday, to run for the seat has shot up rumors that the Wa-born lawyer may rescind his earlier decision and run again.
Ahmad, considered a mentor of Nyantakyi, has given his full backing to Nyantakyi to run again.
Speaking to Starr FM after being awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the University of Professional Studies, Accra, he said: “If the government, if people ask him to continue, then why must he stop? The people need him, the stakeholders need him so why must he not contest again.
“We are here to serve our Nation and service to your country comes first and so I will advise him to seek re-election.”
Ahmad is not the first person to impress on Nyantakyi to seek re-election with several members of the GFA’s Executive Committee on record to have given their backing to the man nicknamed “Wa Polo” to continue to run for office.
