“We have to be top class to beat Real Madrid”- Thomas Partey

Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey, says he and his team-mates will have to be at their best to beat neighbours Real in Sunday’s derby at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Atletico are currently 2nd with 67 points while Real are third on 63 points and a win for either side enhance their chances of grabbing one of the three automatic qualifying places into next year’s UEFA Champions League.

Speaking exclusively to Citi Sports on Friday after the team’s training session, Partey stated that Atletico Madrid would need to give their all if they will get the desired result against Real.

“We are not doing anything special for the game. We are just training hard for this match and we hope to have a better game. We have to do our work well and play a complete game.

Errors will have to be reduced by the team and since we know how they play, we just have to go for the victory this weekend.”

Both teams are going into the derby on a winning note from their European football exertions. Real Madrid beat Juventus 3-0 in Italy in the UEFA Champions League quarter final first leg while Atletico beat Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in the Europa League quarter final first leg.
