The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has expressed optimism about the future of Rugby in Ghana, describing the victory of the Ghana Eagles over Mauritius in the 2018 Rugby Africa Bronze Cup final at the Nduom Sports Stadium on May 12, 2018 as monumental.

A statement from the GRFU president, Herbert Mensah, said the union looks forward to whipping up the interest of Ghanaians in the game and integrating values relevant to the attainment of their purpose.

“Our vision and mission to dramatically increase participation in Rugby in Ghana in order to help build a nation of character through the values of integrity, passion, teamwork, discipline and respect demand that we regard the promotion to the 2019 Rugby Africa Silver Cup as a small step towards that achievement”.

The statement indicated that the union is prepared to make Ghana proud in the upcoming 2018 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens tournament in Tunisia this October.

“The next milestone in Ghana Rugby’s journey of building character while giving our top athletes the opportunity compete and perform is the 2018 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens tournament in Tunisia where we will again leave no stone unturned to fly Ghana’s flag high in October this year”.

While expressing the union’s readiness to take Rugby to a higher level, Mr. Mensah also commented on the financial stress and lack of human resource it had endured in hosting the Bronze Cup.

“The hosting of the Bronze Cup took its toll in terms of the financial resources of Ghana Rugby. Besides for money we also require other resources for governance and administration, development (youth and women), local and international competitions, training and education and higher performance of the Ghana Eagles”

The union has however expressed gratitude to the media and all those who have been supportive of them.
