Ayews, Gyan left out of Black Stars squad to face Japan and Iceland

Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has left out captain Asamoah Gyan and the Ayew brothers, Jordan and Andre from the squad to face Japan and Iceland in international friendlies next month.

Rashid Sumaila, Andy Yiadom,  Mubarak Wakaso, Albert Adomah and Thomas Agyepong make a return to the team while debut call ups have been handed to Levante’s Emmanuel Boateng and Bayern Munich’s Kwesi Okyere.

Christian Atsu, Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah have also been left out.

The Black Stars will face Japan on June 1 before taking on Iceland 6 days later on June 7. The two countries will use the games to prepare for the World Cup next month in Russia.

Ghana will also use the games as part of preparations for their upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifying games which will come off later this year.

In terms of finances, the Sports Ministry has confirmed that the team will receive USD 300, 000 from the Japan friendly and USD 165, 000 for the Iceland friendly.

The amounts will take care of the team’s travel and appearance fees while the host federations are to see to the team’s accommodation and meals.

Below are the players who will represent Ghana in the friendly games:

Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori (Maritzburg United, South Africa), Lawrence Ati Zigi (Sochaux, France)

Defenders: Lumor Agbenyenu (Sporting CP, Portugal), Andy Yiadom (Reading, England), Joseph Attamah (Istanbul Basaksehir, Turkey), Kasim Adams Nuhu (Young Boys, Switzerland), Rashid Sumaila (Al Gharafa, Qatar), Nicholas Opoku (Club Africain, Tunisia)

Midfielders: Isaac Sackey (Alanyaspor, Turkey), Afriyie Acquah (Torino, Italy), Frank Acheampong (Tianjin Teda, China), Mubarak Wakaso (Deportivo Alaves, Spain), Thomas Teye Partey (Atletico Madrid, Spain), Edwin Gyasi (CSKA Sofia, Bulgaria), Thomas Agyepong (NAC Breda, Holland), Nana Ampomah (Waasland-Beveren, Belgium), Albert Adomah (Aston Villa, England)

Forwards: Kwasi Okyere Wriedt (Bayern Munich, Germany), Raphael Dwamena (FC Zurich, Switzerland), Richmond Boakye-Yiadom (Jiangsu Suning, China), Emmanuel Boateng (Levante, Spain)
