Bournemouth 1-0 Swansea: Ryan Fraser leaves the Ayews fighting for EPL survival

Reading Time: 1 min read

Ryan Fraser sent Swansea’s Premier League future into serious jeopardy with the only goal at the Vitality Stadium.

A training ground routine caught the Swans offguard on 37 minutes. Andrew Surman rolled his free-kick across the edge of the box to Fraser, who curled a beautiful right-footed effort past Lukasz Fabianski.

It would’ve been worse if it wasn’t for the Swansea keeper – his fabulous late save ensured Callum Wilson had a woeful day in front of goal.

The best chance for the away side fell to Jordan Ayew in the first half after some intelligent link up play with his brother Andre, but he blasted over from close range.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side will sink into the relegation zone if Southampton get a result at Everton in the late kick off, but their fate remains in their own hands.

They welcome relegation-rivals Saints to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, in what has now become a season-defining fixture for both sides.

Star man

In a game that lacked star quality, particularly up front, Surman put in a classy performance in the middle of the park. There aren’t many players who would pass up on the opportunity to shoot from an 18-year free kick, but it was his intelligence and level-headedness which led to the game-defining moment.

Moment of the match

J. Ayew will be having nightmares about this one. Could it be the moment that sends the Swans down? With his team desperately looking for a way back into the game, he fired over with the goal at his mercy in the first-half. Things could have been very different if that hit the back of the net.
