Anas exposé: Northern Regional FA boss Abu Alhassan resigns

The President of the Northern Regional Football Association, Abdulai Abu Alhassan, has announced his immediate resignation from the position and the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

[contextly_sidebar id=”QTXvCeypn6bgaQBdZXA4xHCL4FMLqq20″]The decision, announced via a statement released on Saturday, was borne out of the recent expose put out by investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, into corruption in football in Ghana.

Abdullai was seen very prominently in the tape and seemed to act as the right-hand man of the former GFA boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, in the captured dealings with undercover reporters posing as businessmen who wanted to invest in the Ghanaian league.

In the video, Abdullai seemed to set up the meeting between the business men and Kwesi Nyantakyi and was seen very often in the interactions of the various parties.

His decision follows that of Kwesi Nyantakyi who quit his position as GFA boss on Friday after an emergency executive committee in Accra.

His statement read:

I, Abdullai Alhassan, after a careful reflection on my role and action in the recent Anas Aremeyaw Anas Expose, I have decided to resign as the Chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association and an Executive Committee member of the Ghana Football Association.

My decision is as a result of deliberations I have had with family and associates.

I wish to state my interest was to develop Ghana football which led me  to take the supposed investors to the President of the Ghana Football Association.

I hereby render an unqualified  apology to my family, friends and the people I was elected to serve and the country at large.

I also sincerely apologise to Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi and all his sympathisers for being the person who led the supposed investors to him.

I hope that Ghana football will get back on its feet from this controversy.

Thanks you.

(Signed)

Abdullai Alhassan

Who is Abdullai?

Abdullai is a former professional player who plied his trade in Holland and Belgium for six years. He retired in 31 and came back to Ghana to form Tamale Utrecht and to contest the region’s FA top job.

He won the election in 2015 and that put him on the GFA’s Executive Committee.
