Ghana’s Kingsley Sarfo jailed 32 months for two child rape cases Sweden

Ghana international Kingsley Sarfo will be spending the next two years and 8 months in Swedish prison for two child rape cases, a Malmö District Court has ruled.

He will also be deported from Sweden after serving his prison sentence.

When the proceedings in Malmö District Court ended on May 25, prosecutor Rikard Darell called for three years imprisonment and expulsion for Sarfo for two cases of rape against children that should have taken place in September 2016 and June 1, 2017 respectively.

But when the verdict came on Friday, the announcement was that the district court passed the prosecutor’s line by sentencing Kingsley Sarfo to two years and eight months in prison, expulsion as wekk as a 15,000 euros fine.

The prosecutor’s main evidence against Sarfo were conversations on social media. Kingsley Sarfo denied authoring the messages in which his victim, a 14-year-old girl came clear with her age.

Despite knowing that, he met with her and had sex in a friend’s apartment. The girl said that the intercourse was voluntary, but according to the district court, a 14-year-old cannot agree to have sex and therefore the football player is convicted.

“It is an adult man who has contacted a girl who was recently 14 years old and a week later, she met with her for the purpose of having sex. Under such circumstances, the crime cannot be regarded as less serious, the President of the Court wrote in a press release.

Sarfo denies crimes

The 23-year-old Malmö FF star denied the crime but acknowledged that he has had sex with the 14-year-old girl at one point, but claimed that he thought she was older.

His defense attorney argued that they both had a love relationship. The prosecutor, on the other hand, said that the football player has only been looking for sex.

Malmö to decide on Sarfo contract

The once-capped Black Stars midfielder joined Malmö last summer. He was at Sirius when the two child rape cases occured.

After his arrest early February this year, Malmö hinted they will be forced to cancel his contract should he be convicted.

In a new statement on the MFF website following the ruling, the club said:

“Malmö FF has heard the judgment. We will decide how the association will act in the matter when the Board has met at the beginning of next week. “

It has been established that he has not been paid any salary since his imprisonment in February.
