Nyantakyi wanted Anas to probe GFA in 2015 – GHALCA Chair

The Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, ironically offered to have Anas Aremeyaw Anas investigate corruption in Ghana football according to the Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association of Ghana (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo.

Mr Fianoo said, in 2015, recounted this on Citi TV’s The Point of View after the screening of Anas’ documentary for the public.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FHwKeOlcl5eisp9LG4hIqQAnkFDadcB7″]”To the extent that I have… I remember very well, in 2015 at one of our ExCo [Executive Committee] meetings, we all accepted the fact that our football was being played at the mercy of match officials.”

“So a decision was taken that we should do something about it. The [GFA] President himself offered that, being a very good friend of Anas, he was going to engage Anas… In September 2015.”

On the whole, Mr Fianoo said the expose was a disgrace to Ghana football.

“We must be the first to admit that we have let Ghanaians down. It’s sad that someone will struggle to get money to go and watch a match, only for an individual to decide the results. This is a very bad day for Ghana football. It’s very shameful. What I watched was disgusting.”

The extent of corruption in the Anas’ documentary has left Ghanaians stunned.

Several high ranking members in the GFA, including its President Kwesi Nyantakyi, have been implicated in acts of corruption.

Many Ghanaian FA officials and referees were caught in match-fixing deals.

Top football administrators were also seen taking money to give footballers call-ups to the national team and more playing time.

Notably, Eddie Doku, the Greater Accra Regional FA boss, has been caught on tape taking a bribe to influence game times for a player in the Black Stars Team B.

MP involvement

Two legislators; Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong and Lawra MP, Anthony Karbo, were also severely tainted by the revelations.

In the video, Kwesi Nyantakyi alleged that Anthony Karbo was his middleman to get potential investors to the presidency.

Anthony Karbo, also the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways was invited by the CID and interrogated on Monday, May 28, 2018.

There is also the suggestion from Anthony Karbo that Kennedy Agyapong was given control of the Ministry of Transport as a reward.

This is because of the controversial MP’s campaign contributions to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Kwesi Nyantakyi is also heard telling undercover reporters that the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, was the Assin Central MP’s pick.
