Footballers across the Brong Ahafo Region converged on the Twene Amanfo Senior High Technical School Park for the Betway Talent Search.

The Betway Talent Search is a football scouting initiative aimed at unearthing football talents between the ages of 18 and 25.

[contextly_sidebar id=”A96dYrVxIySpw3BzCZcCnNZaQAgKgPUi”]Some of the footballers traveled from as far as Kintampo to demonstrate what they are made of.

318 footballers were taken through various drills before the actual selection begun.

Assistant Coach of the Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu, and former Black Star players including Stephen Appiah, Mohammed Gargo, Godfried Aduobe and Sam Johnson did the selection. Eric Antwi Ofori of the Lizzy Sports Complex was also in attendance.

All the players had the opportunity to play for the team to observe and select them.

It was tough for the team to select the 32 players because of the number and the talents they possessed. But after close to six hours, they were able to get the players they needed.

Coach Maxwell Konadu who spoke to Citi News after the final selection of 32 players was enthused with the attendance.

He said those selected had the potential to excel, and would be polished to meet the needed standard.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dormaa- based Aduana Football Club, Albert Commey, commended Betway for the initiative to hunt for talents from the Brong Ahafo Region.

Former captain of the Black Stars, who is also the brand ambassador of Betway, Stephen Appiah, in an interview was worried Colts Football is dead in the country, and called for its revival.

Stephen Appiah noted that if Colts Football is not revived many talents would go waste.

The Country Manager  in charge of Operations at Betway, Magnus Rex Danquah Jnr., revealed that in the coming years, there would be a talent search for female footballers across the country as well.

He said the programme is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
