Republic Bank supports Inter-regional sports festival with GHc17,400

GHc 17,400 has been granted as support to the Inter-Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival being held in Koforidua by The Republic Bank.

This is the third year the bank has supported the competition.

The acting general manager of the Republic Bank, Benjamin Dzumeku, said they hoped to raise the standards of athletics in the country.

“Ghana as a country we love sports and from history we have not registered any trophy or medal at the international level so Republic Bank which is part of Republic Financial Holdings has identified the need to get a champion for the country and this can only be done by getting the talents from the scratch, develop them from JHS through to the SHS level,” he told Citi News.

Mr Dzumeku also called on other private institutions to come on board to support and improve athletics in the country.

“As a good corporate citizen, you have to know the needs of the country and as we have been able to do so, others can also do same and even more, so I am calling on all responsible institutions, departments and agencies to support sporting activities in the country especially the juvenile sports.

The Director of Physical Education at the Ghana Education Service, Emmanuel Dormenya, who received some other items from the bank, pledged to use them judiciously to organise a successful event.

“We are very happy and excited about this donation because sports is such that no matter how you plan you will be limited by funds, so we approached Republic Bank and they told us they will as part of their corporate social responsibility assist athletics at the basic level and for the past 3 years we have had a fruitful partnership with them”.
