Watford midfielder Roberto Pereyra began the season in spectacular style with two brilliant goals in a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Seagulls may have spent £60million on 10 new signings but it was the Hornets, with just one new boy, Ben Foster, in their XI who claimed with spoils in stunning fashion.

Argentine midfielder Pererya scored a superb volley from a corner routine and then powered home another in the opening period to ensure Javi Gracia’s side got their campaign off to an encouraging start.

But Brighton’s defending let them down badly and left manager Chris Hughton shaking his head in frustration.

Star Man

It may seem obvious but Pereyra put on a fine show throughout, he attempted eight dribbles, completing five, and took four shots as he attempted to claim a hat-trick after two fine goals. A lovely performance.

Moment of the Match

The Hornets’ first goals was absolutely cracking, even if Mat Ryan getting a grubby paw on it did take away from its beauty somewhat. The cross from Holebas was a delight and the strike technically excellent, and rasping.
