Seven Hearts of Oak fans have been remanded in police custody by an Nkawie Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region for their role in rioting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The case has been adjourned to Friday September 7.

The suspects were arrested by police during the friendly match between the Accra-based giants and rivals Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium over the weekend

In the friendly encounter between the country’s two on Sunday, some fans believed to be advocates of Hearts of Oak threw missiles onto the pitch after they believed their team should have been awarded a penalty by referee Kwame Sefah.

In the build up to Asante Kotoko’s opening goal, Hearts winger Patrick Razak had a goal at his mercy but was dispossessed off the ball by defender Agyemang Badu.

The Porcupine Warriors went ahead to win the match 2-0 courtesy goals from Obed Owusu and Emmanuel Gyamfi.

During the game, seven supporters of Hearts of Oak were apprehended by the police.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Sargent Bright Acheampong declared that the culprits have been charged on three counts and will appear at the Kumasi Circuit court 2.

“They are charged on three accounts; damages, conspiracy and assault,” he stated.

“For the other two, their dockets have been handed over to the drug law enforcement unit waiting for the distribution to be signaled on the court they will go to.”
