Old Presecans to pay for pitch they damaged on Bonfire Night

The global alumni Vice President of the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Ernest Owusu-Afari has disclosed that the group has contracted Green Grass Technologies to restore the pitch ahead of a final inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) before the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations in November.

The pitch located on the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School campus was in prime condition until last Friday when the alumni of the school held the 2018 edition of the Torch and Bonfire Night on it.

Pictures of ravaged pitch littered with plastics flooded social media on Saturday with some questioning if it could be restored in time before officials of CAF visit Ghana this week for a final inspection of facilities.

Graphic Online also gathered that officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Freda Prempeh-led Local Organising Committee were also left seething at the state the pitch was left by the Odadeɛs (as the Presec old boys are known).

“In fact, we brought in GGT just yesterday and in fact they are on the field even as at now as we speak,” Mr Owusu-Afari said in an interview.

According to him, the pitch is of great importance to the alumni as well as the current students of the school which is why they have consistently contributed towards its maintenance since AFCON 2008.

“I don’t know if you are aware that the pitch has been maintained by the old boys and the school for all these years. All the other pitches that were done for the CAN 2008, I don’t know how many of them are still in good serviceable condition but we have been instrumental, together with the school authorities in maintaining the pitch”.

He said the alumni of the school had contracted GGT at short notice for a ‘significant’ amount to ensure that the playing surface was restored in time for the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations.

“We do realise that it needs some work for it to be brought back to a standard that will be able to handle the forthcoming tournament so we moved as quickly as possible to contract Green Grass Technologies”.

The Presbyterian Boys School Park is one of six earmarked venues that will host teams during the eight-nation  Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations slated for November 17-December 1, 2018.

Along with the El Wak Stadium, the pitch will serve as training ground for teams based in Accra who will play their competitive matches at the Accra Sports Stadium while the Robert Mensah and Ndoum stadia will serve as training pitches for teams who will play their games at the Cape Coast stadium.
