Ghana’s Thomas Partey played out a brilliant performance for Atletico Madrid as they came back from 2-1 down to beat Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday.
Partey started the match for the defending Europa League winners as they hoped to win to keep the chase on Barcelona who would play on Sunday against Real Betis on Sunday.
But things did not go according to the script because Bilbao took the lead in the 36th minute through Inaki Williams. He stabbed the home after an initial shot came off the cross bar.
Atletico found a response in the 61st minute and it was brilliant effort from Partey that leveled the score.
After taking the ball from Felipe Luis, Partey set himself up and shot from distance into the back of the net.

However, Bilbao came back once again and took a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute with another Williams goal.
Atletico made it 2-2 when Rodri Hernandez headed home a Partey corner in the 80th minute.
The script ended in Atletico’s favour when Diego Godin poked home a header in the 92nd minute.
