Former GAA President seeks injunction against upcoming elections

Former Ghana Athletics Association president, and candidate for this year’s GAA elective congress, George Lutterodt, has sought an injunction on the country’s athletics governing body’s upcoming elections in Tamale.

The GAA had set December 15, 2018 as the date to hold their quadrennial congress.

But Lutterodt, who is contesting for the position of president of the association, has asked an Accra High Court to put stop the congress from happening until his concerns are addressed.

Lutterodt is believed to be unhappy with the decision to take the Congress to Tamale, and to have it so close to Christmas.

He has also previously expressed dissatisfaction over the electoral process, accusing the GAA of manipulating the system to disenfranchise many of his supporters.

Thirty-three delegates will decide the future of the association in Tamale.

Lutterodt will face competition from Afelibiek Ababu of the Upper East Region and Samuel Ayer of SESSA.

Though the position of president will be the major highlight, the position of vice president will also be a major point of concentration.

Incumbent president of the association, Prof. Francis Dodoo’s decision to descend to contest the vice presidency position after serving two successive terms, has drawn massive interest to the seat.
