Stephen Appiah eulogizes late mum on his birthday

Former Ghana Football captain Stephen Appiah has eulogized the memory of his late mum, Madam Comfort Afua Amootey who died earlier this week as he celebrates his 38th Birthday.

In an emotional post on his Instagram page, Stephen Appiah described his mother as someone who gave him so much love and joy.

According to him, he always chose to rather celebrate his mother on his birthday because she gave him everything he has now, adding that his birthday is never complete without showing his mum how much he loved her.

The Blackstars team coordinator, Stephen, revealed that although he wished his mother would be alive to witness his birthday, he takes solace in the fact that ‘God knows best’.

“Today is my birthday and I should be celebrating but instead I’m mourning. Mourning the very person who gives me so much love and joy. For I always see 24th December as a day to celebrate you instead of me because you made it possible.

This day was never complete without me showing you how much I love and appreciate all you have done for me. There was no birthday without the kiss on your cheeks.”

“Why you chose to leave me the same week I celebrate my birthday is what I’m struggling to understand. 4 days ago I knew I will be marking this day with you and today you are gone. God knows best. I dedicate my day to you even in your absence. I’ve asked God to give you my birthday kiss for me. Love you, mummy. Rest in perfect peace.”

Some media reports have emerged that former Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah’s commemorative football gala has been cancelled as he lost his mother on Saturday, December, 22.

Stephen Appiah, led the country to its first World Cup appearance in 2006 as well as Ghana’s best ever World Cup finish in South Africa four years later.

In an interview with the media, he disclosed that the football gala event was to bring together his friends, playmates, and other Ghanaian players to celebrate his birthday on the pitch and have some fun afterwards.
