“We have to face Zesco without key injured players”- Kotoko head coach C.K. Akonnor

For Asante Kotoko to progress to the last 8 of the CAF Confederation Cup, they need to get a good result against ZESCO in Zambia on Sunday and they will have to do so without certain important players.

It turns out that the team’s injury list grew by a few more players following their 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal and to add to that, star man, Sogne Yacouba will miss the game through suspension.

C.K. Akonnor, the team’s head coach, is encouraging the  18-man team heading to Zambia to brace itself and fight for the result they want even in the absence of these players.

“No coach will be happy if he has key players injured. It is very a painful experience. Last Saturday during training, we lost Abdul Ganiyu to injury. Before then, it was Maxwell Baako, Richard Senanu and the rest.

However, we are going to Zambia without them. There is nothing we can do about that. What we can do is to think, be smart and try to get a victory.”

Kotoko are expected to be in Zambia later on Thursday after leaving Addis Ababa where they transited.

The match is on Sunday and Kotoko need to win to qualify irrespective of what happens between Al Hilal and Nkana who will be facing each other in Sudan.
