Black Stars and Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey on Saturday emerged winner of the coveted Sports Personality of The Year accolade at the 44th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The former Tema Youth player also swept the Footballer of the Year award while Northern Ladies forward, Mukarama Abdulai won the Female Footballer of The Year gong for her exploits at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup held in Uruguay.

Partey beat competition from boxer Isaac Dogboe and CAF Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe to claim the top award.

The enterprising midfielder won the award at the expense of his competitors after helping Atletico Madrid to win the second most prestigious club trophy in Europe, the Europa League, in the year under review.

He also contributed greatly in Ghana’s qualification to the 2019 AFCON to be staged in Egypt in June.
