GFA Congress: NC proposes 2 terms for new FA President

As part of reforms to the statutes of the Ghana Football Association, the FA’s Congress has proposed that the new President of the FA should have a maximum of two terms in the position.

The proposal is part of the draft statutes that the NC sent to FIFA for approval per the dictates of their mandate from FIFA.

The draft statutes are being discussed at the GFA’s Extraordinary Congress in Accra in Thursday at the Physicians and Surgeons College.

This is what the draft proposal says:

“The mandate of the Chairman, the Vice Chairman and members of the Board of Directors shall be a term of four years. Their mandates shall immediately begin after the end of the Congress, which has elected them.

No person may serve as a member of the Board of Directors for more than two terms of office, whether consecutive or not. Any partial term beyond twenty-four (24) months shall count as a full term.”

New path for Ghana football

In previous years, the FA President could serve as many terms as possible provided he won the elections or he went unopposed.

The Association’s former President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, served from 2005 to 2018 when he was banned after his alleged in the Anas “Number 12” documentary that looked at corruption in Ghana football.

In addition to the introduction of term limits, the NC has also proposed the publication of the audited accounts of the accounts of the FA in the national dailies.
