Ghana International winger Christian Atsu has admitted he has failed to convince Premier League fans of his quality, and has vowed to set the record straight this season.

The 27 year old has made 56 league appearances in the past two seasons for Newcastle, only managing three goals and two assists – with his only goal last season coming in Newcastle’s 3-2 home defeat by Liverpool.

However, with injuries to Matt Ritchie and new signing Allan Saint-Maximin, Atsu is certainly set for a run in the Newcastle first team set up, and he is determined to make it count.

“I think this is going to be an important season for me.

“I have been here for four years now and I have had some good times and played some good games – but I still don’t really think people have been able to see the best of me, certainly not on a consistent basis,” he told The Northern Echo.

“That is the challenge now, to make sure this season is different.

“I am very happy with the way the team is playing and the way we are trying to press teams, I think that will help with my game.”

After playing a key part in Newcastle’s only win so far this season away at Tottenham, Atsu will be looking to repeat the dose when his side take on league leaders Liverpool this weekend, live on Citi 97.3FM.
