AFCON 2021 Qualifiers: Shafiu Mumuni blown away by Black Stars selection

AshGold forward, Shafiu Mumuni, says he was totally surprised at getting a place in Ghana’s AFCON 2021 Qualifiers team to face South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.

Mumuni was given a call-up by Kwesi Appiah in the team that was announced on Wednesday.

Mumuni was the top scorer from the WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal and before that, he was leading the line very well for AshGold in their CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.

He told Fox FM on Wednesday in an interview that the call-up was very unexpected and he was stunned by the development. However, he said that he would do his best to show his quality in the national team.

“This morning I saw my name in the squad and I was shocked. It is due to hard work and determination.

The Shafiu you see in Ashantigold and the WAFU, you will see the same Shafiu in the senior national team camp.”

Mumuni and Felix Annan are the only players in the team representing the Ghana Premier League in Kwesi Appiah’s 23-man team for the qualifiers.
